Trump Makes A Late-Night Announcement Affecting …

Millions of Americans could see a payment arrive this month, tied to a federal fund established nearly two decades ago.

The announcement came late Friday, with specific eligibility rules and a smaller dollar amount than the initial description suggested.

President Donald Trump announced one-time $90 payments for more than 20 million Medicare Part B enrollees to offset premiums.

He described the beneficiaries as “wonderful Seniors” and said his administration would immediately begin sending the money.

The White House subsequently specified $90 per eligible person, clarifying Trump’s description of checks worth nearly $100.

Most qualifying recipients should receive a direct deposit in early October, according to the administration’s fact sheet.

Those without direct deposit should receive a mailed check at the address Medicare has on file.

This is a single payment, not a monthly reduction in the premium or an increase in Social Security benefits.

The money is intended to help with Medicare Part B premiums, which cover medical services under the federal program.

The administration says most Part B enrollees qualify, but two categories of beneficiaries are excluded.

People whose Part B premiums are already paid by Medicaid will not receive the payment, the White House said.

Beneficiaries who pay an Income–Related Monthly Adjustment Amount are also ineligible under the announced rules.

Those exclusions mean Medicare enrollment alone does not guarantee a $90 deposit or check this month.

The White House said eligible seniors can check their status by calling the Medicare program.

It directed beneficiaries asking about payment status to the Social Security Administration.

The announced source of the money is the Medicare Improvement Fund, established by Congress in 2008.

According to the White House, Congress provided the fund $2 billion for improvements to Medicare’s fee-for-service program.

The administration says the fund has never previously been used to make direct payments to beneficiaries.

Its statement describes this as the first presidential use of that fund to directly lower seniors’ costs.

At $90 each, payments to more than 20 million people would exceed $1.8 billion in total.

That makes the exact number of recipients and the fund’s available balance material questions for public accounting.

The White House says the money is being drawn from a fund already established for Medicare improvements.

Trump cast the move as returning healthcare dollars directly to people who pay into the system.

He criticized how the fund had been handled before, calling it a “Slush Fund” in his social media post.

That label and his accusations about Democrats are his political characterizations, not details of the payment rules.

“We are finally using this Fund,” Trump wrote while linking the move to his broader prescription drug policy.

The White House also highlighted its drug-pricing agreements and other healthcare initiatives alongside the announcement.

Those broader claims do not change the immediate mechanics: one eligible beneficiary receives one $90 payment.

The new payment is distinct from a separate $500 refund initiative for some Affordable Care Act enrollees.

That earlier program targets roughly 950,000 people the administration says were overcharged for marketplace coverage.

Trump explicitly said the Medicare payment is separate from those healthcare exchange refunds.

The president also used Friday’s announcement to revive a much larger proposed $5,000 dividend.

He tied that proposal to Republicans winning the midterm elections, according to his post.

The proposed dividend is separate from the announced Medicare payment and should not be confused with an approved benefit.

For seniors budgeting around monthly premiums, the relevant amount here remains a one-time $90.

The administration’s timetable says most direct deposits will arrive in early October.

Checks for people without direct deposit are also expected to be sent during that period, The New York Post reported.

Anyone checking eligibility should use official Medicare contact information, as listed by the White House.
