Savannah Guthrie thanked Allison Janney for remembering her family as she renewed her plea for help in finding her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie.
TUCSON, ARIZONA: Savannah Guthrie has renewed her emotional plea for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, more than six months after the 84-year-old disappeared from her Tucson home.
During the broadcast on Tuesday, September 15, the Today show co-host said her family still wants their mother home and thanked actor Allison Janney for keeping their pain in the spotlight.
Savannah made the plea after Janney spoke about the Guthrie family backstage at the 2026 Emmy Awards. The actor, who won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The Diplomat, said she had been thinking about Savannah and her family every day.
Savannah Guthrie Renews Plea for Missing Mother
Speaking about her mother, Savannah said, “We just want our mom home [to] give her a proper goodbye.”
She later told co-host Willie Geist that she would not let an opportunity pass without speaking about Nancy and what her family has been going through.
“How much we miss her and love her,” Savannah said, her voice cracking.
She also opened up about the ongoing heartbreak her family faces. “We are in such pain,” she said, adding, “We need help.”
Savannah then thanked Janney for speaking about her family and helping renew the call for support. “So thank you, Allison Janney, for remembering us and for giving an opportunity to renew that call,” she said.
Allison Janney Supports Savannah Guthrie at Emmys
Janney’s comments came backstage at the 2026 Emmy Awards, where she spoke about Savannah and her loved ones. The actor said she had been thinking about the morning news anchor’s family daily and “about the loss Savannah and her family are going through.”
“It just took over,” Janney told reporters backstage.
Savannah said Janney’s remarks were especially touching because they came on a night when the actor had just won an Emmy for her role in The Diplomat.
Nancy Guthrie Search Continues After Six Months
Federal and local law enforcement have worked for more than six months to locate Nancy, but the search has not yet brought her home.
Investigators have also analyzed ransom notes sent by those responsible for her disappearance. One of the notes claims Nancy “perished shortly after she was taken” and states that she is “buried in nature.” The note also addressed Nancy’s family directly: “Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome. We want your family to know this and hope you can find peace. We are truly sorry.”
Despite the painful message, Savannah continues to use every platform to speak about her mother and ask for help.
