WASHINGTON \u2014<\/strong> Donald Trump Jr. is facing renewed political and media scrutiny after a senior House Democrat opened an investigation into reported financial support provided by Russian boxing official Umar Kremlev for celebrations connected to Trump Jr.\u2019s wedding earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The inquiry, announced by Rep. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, focuses on reports that Kremlev helped cover substantial expenses associated with post-wedding celebrations in the Bahamas. The investigation seeks additional information about the financial arrangement, communications surrounding the events and any potential connections between Kremlev and individuals associated with the Trump family.<\/p>\n

According to reporting by ProPublica and Reuters, Trump Jr.\u2019s wife, Bettina Trump, acknowledged Kremlev\u2019s contribution but described it as a generous gift from a personal acquaintance. Kremlev, who heads the International Boxing Association, has attracted scrutiny because of his reported connections to Russian officials.
